Goblin destruction

Soot the giant dryad
Casamir the ascetic
Emrys the new magic user
Aethelread II the mule

The players spent the first 30 minutes discussing a plan for the dungeon. realizing they had downtime actions, they rolled and discovered that the healer Soot had been looking for was missing. They decided instead to rescue a kidnapped hedge witch healer from a Goblin Occupation Army a few days travel west.

They purchased Aethelread II and set off with directions from the mayor. Travel 1.5 days west on a trail, take the fork north and travel another .5 day. The goblins will be camped in a forest to the west.

This is as far as my prep went. Oops.

Here's what I did. As the players discussed plans and dealt with inventory stuff, I went to the OSE random encounter generator and mashed until I found some ideas I liked.

Using the travel rules from Errant, because Errant rocks, the Wolf Gang traveled west through a blizzard. They discovered an encounter sign, so I interpreted that as a Pegasus feather sticking from the snow. Soot also managed to track down some rabbits to eat. Casamir declared himself vegetarian and ate oats with Aethelread II.

Turning north at the fork the Wolfgang soon located the woods holding the goblin encampment. Looking down on it from the hills, they saw smoke from multiple campfires, as well as a river running through the woods. They split up and decided to approach the camp from north, east, and south, and reunite to discuss a plan.

As they discussed their plan, I came up with a rough design for the camp. A watchtower at the center, with a large tent right below it. I rolled a d6 for each player and interpreted. Soot got a 1, there'd be a crude wall to the south of camp. Cas got a 6, so he found the direwolf pens to the north of camp, only 1 of 6 occupied. Emrys a three, so he just found 6 goblins guarding a wide open space between the tree line and the camp.

Regrouping, they discussed.

Cas would don the Honeyclasp, shrink to 6", and sneak into camp. He'd find the witch, swap the ring with her, and bolt out.

Soot would use Ward behind him, trapping any pursuers in an impassible circle.

Emrys would cast Elemental Wall of Fire to cause maximum chaos.

The plan was enacted at dawn. I rolled to see if the warg riders would be returning any time soon and got a 1. They'd come as the Wolf Gang began their exit.

When Cas got to the big tent beneath the watchtower, he found a hobgoblin leader petting his personal pet warg. Cas went for it. Swapping the ring over to the witch he managed to surprise the hobgoblin and his warg, and began the sprint out of camp.

As soon as Cas had gotten out of sight, Soot cast Ward to keep his escape clear of goblins. Emrys prepped an enhanced Elemental Flame Wall, and cast it as soon as Cas got into the Ward. The goblin camp erupted in a 100' long wall of flames, lighting tents and the watchtower on fire, but not before the warhorn was sounded.

With the sound of the warhorn, a single warg howl rose up from camp, and 4 more echoed from the plains to the south. Wolf Gang rejoined Aethelread II, and started back on the path towards Stonehome with Cannora the Witch still tucked in Cas' pocket.

4 hours later, they heard the approaching howls of the wargs coming from the path behind them, and prepared for an ambush. Cas and Emrys in the middle of the road, Aethelread II hidden off to the side of the trail, and Soot up a tree.

The burnt hobgoblin and 4 fresh goblins, all atop wargs, approached and attempted to intimidate the Wolfgang. Soot shot the leader in the head, and another wall of flame erupted from Emrys' hands, completely surrounding them. In rushing through the flame, the hobgoblin and warg duo perished, as well as two goblins. The remaining goblins failed a morale check and fled atop their wargs, but the remaining two wargs now without riders, fought to the death. It was a quick death, as Cas bashed both of their heads in, sad to do harm to these poor dogs.

With the threats cleared, they returned the Witch Cannora to her usual size and explained. In return, she agreed to train Soot in some healing techniques, offered a spellbook to Emrys, and said she'd be willing to try and enchant some items for Cas.

They returned to Stonehome without a hitch, encountering only the pegasus they had seen hints of earlier, flying off to the south, with sunshine glinting off its gold-tipped feathers.

They received 500 gold from the mayor.
